On a crispy Saturday night, April 19, 2008, Fayetteville State University hosted its 17th annual Miss FSU pageant. The much-anticipated event, made possible by the hard work and drive of a dedicated staff…drew students, alumni, faculty, family supporters, and other attendees excited to witness the placement of our new 2008-2009 Miss FSU. An original and creative theme, The Miss Education, gave the pageant spice, flare, and authenticity.
Six lovely ladies competed for the prestigious title of Miss FSU with determination, confidence, and faith. There were four main rounds of competition, through which each lady showed superiority and clemency. Sobeilly Guadalupe, from Fayetteville, NC; Elita Hill, from Fayetteville, NC; Brittany Jackson, from Charlotte, NC, Andrea Donaldson, from Sanford, NC; Kelly Smith, from Fayetteville, NC; and Amber Bernard, from Richmond, CA all graced the Seabrook stage with beauty and dignity. Each young woman brought originality and diversity to the pageant.
They greeted the audience during a warm, fun opening act and wowed supporters with cute, colorful athletic wear that fitted their very own lifestyles. The girls stole the undivided attention of the entire auditorium during the talent competition. Each contestant demonstrated her personal abilities through song, poetry, spoken word or instrumental composition. During the final round, the competitors strutted down the walk way of the stage in gorgeous evening wear while their biographical statements were read…Beauty, brains, and distinction were obviously prevalent among this year's pageant.
Junior Brittany Jackson, a physical education major triumphed to take the title of Miss Fayetteville State University. She also won the student vote and the Maceo Best Talent Award. Brittany, a humble, likeable, God-fearing young lady from Charlotte, NC had the audience in uproar as she was proclaimed our new Miss FSU. She smiled and waved in her Bronco blue gown. First runner-up, winner of the Chavis Best Dressed award, and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc Amber Bernard also gleamed in a stunning ivy and cream colored gown. Third runner-up and brand new member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc was admirable and vivacious in a red carpet worthy light chiffon-ruffle number.
The 17th annual Miss FSU pageant proved to be a massive success. Congratulations to Brittany Jackson, the woman who will serve as perhaps the most important ambassador of us all.
